An Introduction to AIOps

The best way to understand this new system is that it is an abbreviation for AIOps “artificial intelligence for IT operations.” This means that it refers to a technology platform that has more than one layer. Additionally, it means that this method is an interface that will enhance and automate any of your IT operations simply by using machine learning (ML) and analytics. However, that is those just the basics? Read on if you want to know more about this fascinating technological infrastructure.

AIOps employs a continuous ML and analytics strategy for all combined IT endeavours.

First and foremost, one of the things that this infrastructure does is to join together IT with insights that are influenced by automation. These two characteristics can then provide a solid one-two punch that will help to yield constant fixes and improvements. How does this interface accomplish this goal? They do it through the joining of three IT disciplines. First, they emphasize service management by “engaging”; second, they will become involved in performance management by “observing”; and then they will do automation or “acting.”

What does this IT system mean?

This IT system is best understood when you consider the following elements:

Diverse and Extensive IT Data

This system works to “break down data silos” by bringing data together even when they come from tools that are disparate. Some of the data might come from the IT operations management metric, but some of the other data will emanate from the incidents and changes inherent in IT service management.

An Aggregated Platform of Big Data

The heart of the above platform – indeed, any platform – would be big data. However, once you liberate that, you should once again bring it together to support next-level analytics. This needs to occur both in an off-line environment as well as in a real-team.

Machine Learning

One of the things that big data will do is to enable the application of ML in order to analyze boundless amounts of diverse data. It would be next to impossible to do all of this with human effort. However, through the use of the IT artificial intelligence interface, this is not just possible, but it’s actually much easier.

Why is this needed in the first place?

Now that we understand just what this is, we must determine why it is needed in the first place. First of all, this system is designed to address all of the latest infrastructure problems. First of all, it is becoming increasingly evident that these issues will need to be addressed at increasing speeds. Additionally, any reaction to an IT event must occur immediately simply because of the fact that the issue might impact the user experience.

Naturally, data continues to increase at an exponential rate, and this means that it is becoming too complex just to leave to a manual reporting system. Finally, we have the fact that even though developers have more power, there still is a need for accountability with core IT. Yes, programmers are taking on more monitoring responsibility when it comes to applications, but the infrastructure is still a core IT issue.

If this all sounds daunting to you, don’t fret. No, human beings are not being replaced. There is just a reality in place, but humans will still be needed to take on many different new roles in the near future!
